I would already know what happening but I usually can make it home with about 6 to go in the 3rd if its a 7 oclock start and about 12-15 mins left in the 3rd if its a 7:30 start. I got it down to a science man 8-) haha. Thank god I only work late monday and tuesday. And that will def have to change come playoff time… haha

The over/under is 6 goals between the two teams. I made that up by looking at the goalies’ GAA’s. Anyway, I say over(5-3, either way). What does everyone esle think?

The angle that particularly sucks IMHO is how Miller had a better defense in front of him in Vancouver.

Was just talking about this. 2 years ago the Cleveland Cavs came out flat every single 3rd quarter and would get outscored by 10+. The Sabres have the same problem in the first period, and when the Cavs figured it out they became the dominant team they are now. If the Sabres can figure out this first period funk, they’ll win the division.

Except we don’t have LeBron.

by Andy Boron on Mar 2, 2010 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting comparison.

Thinking about it, the Cavs had a couple of seasons where they needed to learn – and acquire teammates that complimented King James.

While I won’t even think of comparing where Miller stands with his peers and sport as Lebron, you do have me considering what kind of team we’re building here.

Our team from 3-4 seasons ago is not the kin of team you build around Miller. You build a team that plays like the Devils. And while there are pieces that don’t fit right now… this season it feels lke the team is playing to their strengths (or to the best cog) instead of playing what worked after the strike.

by dfderie on Mar 2, 2010 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

I may be in the minority here

But a PP that is split 50-50 (or 1:00-1:00) between periods is not as effective as when you get a full 2 minutes without a 20 minute break between shifts.

by tripl21 on Mar 2, 2010 8:14 PM EST reply actions

I want to say this about a possible trade

If the Sabres trade Toni Lydman for an offensive defenseman it would be a huge mistake. Lydman is the Sabres best defensive defenseman and Miller needs him blocking shots.

"Hey ey ey ey"

by bflo on Mar 2, 2010 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

I agree...anything that helps win

I just don’t think trading Lydman for an offensive defenseman will help the team win. When the team was struggling it was defense that was the problem but everyone wants to ship out the few players we have that play defense for an offensive defenseman. IMO that would be a mistake.

D.O.

by David Oleksy on Mar 2, 2010 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I agree. I dont think trading Lydman for an Offensive D-man is a good idea, and doesnt help us win. So im against that. But if the right piece is coming back then I start to listen for Lydman, and I listen even more for Tallinder…

Seen lots of comments about sloppy play. I hate being an out-of-towner.

Somewhat rusty.

But they look like they are committed to playing their system like they have most of this year.

The one player not rusty? Lalime.

Informal poll

After 40 minutes the Sabres are down 2-1. Better or worse than you expected?

Bonus question: When we fell behind 2-0 would you be happy with the score right now?

Question #1 – better. Question #2 – works for me.

D.O. just mentioned the Sens score. I think they were up 1-0 at one point. Let’s see if this team remembers how they won more than a couple of games the first 4 months of season.

by dfderie on Mar 2, 2010 9:06 PM EST reply actions

1. Pretty much what I expected. Remember, I predicted a 3-1 Pens win.

2. Yes

Trade Update

Chicago acquired D Nick Boynton from Anaheim for future considerations. He’d been playing in the AHL for a few weeks before the Olympic break. Not huge news, but it’s been a slow day.

Huh? I don’t complain about the refs much. I just care that they call the game fairly for both teams. But that exchange was typical of this game.

Don't fully agree.

Myers crashed the offensive net. First good moment for him in the game.

Lalime could have covered up but decided to let Myers play it. The latest poor moment for Myers in the game.

Take that away? You have Gaustad getting the crap beaten out of him and it sounds like he may not be back.

Um, okay. That last part was ugly.
