Open Letter To Darcy
I hope to myself that I just didn't see the future but... After watching the gold medal game I had an erie feeling. I seen Ryan looking down to the ice in defeat again, but this time he is wearing blue and gold. Just seems like the Sabres are Team USA. Enough talent to win it all but just missing someting to put us over the top...
Now that Miller has proven to be at the top of his game I think its time for a major move. No Corkum or Zuburis or Gratton. With most of our team locked up for the forseeable future its time to make a major move to go for the cup full force. After the olympic games I keep having the same thought over and over again. I have to get Rick Nash on my team. He fits every criteria we need, size, skill, star power. Now that Columbus is in rebuilding mode(and if they aren't they should be) lets give them something they can't refuse. Stafford, Gerbe, Weber and a first rounder for Nash and Torres. I would even part with any minor leaguer in trade for anyone named above. I Just feel its time to go for it now while Miller and the core are in its prime. I don't feel like this trade is far off. What do you think? who can push us over the top that is realistic? I think this move will benefit both teams. Our time is now and their time is tomorrow so lets get it done Darcy!!!

and by the way....
the fans will support the team in five to ten years down the line if this fails. I think we have already proven that…SO LETS GET ’ER DONE!!

Something tells me
that they won’t give up Nash that easily. He is the face of their franchise. That said, I’ve annually given up a lot on my NHL 09, 08, 07…heck…I’ve wanted to see him in the Blue and Gold (or Black and Red as the case may have been) since the lockout. I really like Gerbe’s intensity and would hate to see him go, but a part of me has been starting to question his pontential, so I think I’d actually take that deal.
(Full disclosure: I have not yet had my morning coffee)
Another problem is his contract: his new contract is quite expensive (comes with a cap hit of $7.8 mil/season for eight seasons) and unless Regier can dump some $$/send Vanek the other way then it’s going to be really tough to fit Nash in.

No way in hell does Columbus trade Nash.
Even in full blown rebuild mold you don’t trade your only superstar and best player. Especially after just signing him to an extension. You need someone to rebuild around. If he was a free agent at the end of the year then yes, I could see him being moved. But he’s not. He’s signed through 2017. (Plus he has a NMC for the first 5 years of the extension.)
They’re also not going to trade the one reason the fans come out to the games. Columbus is having a hard time selling tickets lately. The front office would be committing seppuku by trading Nash.
I’m also not sure how Stafford, Gerbe, Weber and a first is a “can’t refuse.” Especially when you include Torres. If Dominic Moore is worth a 2nd, Torres is worth more than that. I’d say it’s closer to “can’t stop laughing” than “can’t refuse.”
just a couple names to throw around
I meant that we should give them an offer they can refuse not that the proposal is can’t refuse.

So your thinking it would have to be something like
Kennedy,Adam’s,Enroth,Gerbe, and Adan’s and 2 first rounders for Nash and Torres?
I don't know.
I suck at trades, I just know that you’d really have to overwhelm Howson to the point that he’s be dumb not to make the trade. You’re talking about a top 5/10 goal scorer here. No one could have an expiring contract. There would need to be a young established scorer who they can build around. Another established top 6 F or top 4 D. A can’t miss prospect. One or two high ceiling prospects and maybe a draft pick or two.
- Stafford fits the second one for the most part.
- Gerbe would be a high ceiling prospect, he’s still not a can’t miss (yet.)
- Weber, I’m not sure where he fits. He’s not proven that he can stick in the NHL and I have no idea what to call him as a prospect anymore. He’s a can’t miss in that he’ll definitely be a pro but how high is anyone’s guess.
- Kennedy’s another player hard to give a value to.
- Adam is definitely a high, high ceiling prospect. (With a chance to be a can’t miss.) BUT he’s not even in the AHL yet. He’d almost definitely have to be included. Either him or Ennis.
- Enroth has little value to Columbus. As bad as Mason has been this year he’s the future there. Not much value in a trading for an AHL goalie to be your future backup goaltender.

For Nash to work, you would have to throw in Vanek.
If I were to make the trade it would be Vanek, Stafford, Gerbe/Ennis (either or), Adam, this year’s first and second and next year’s second. You might even have to throw in Myers.
Way, way too much to give up there by the way.

Feel bad for Nash now
Columbus had a fire sale and he is gonna waste away there. Could have helped up win a cup here but I know his price was too high for Darcy. Too bad, Nash is a great player.

Huh?
He just signed an 8 year extension. He was in no way coming here to win a Cup. He was in no way going to Pitt or Wash or SJ or anywhere but Columbus to win a Cup. The price wasn’t too high, it was non-existent.

Could have neen nice.........
We got Torres, but we did not get Nash. Too bad, he would have been a great addition. I think we would have to send quite a bit to get Nash. Maybe Vanek, Stafford, Gerbe, some draft picks more people, I don’t really know much about trades, but we would have to send a lot.
Hi! I'm hungry! How are you?
