Buffalo Sabres Quiz: Chapter One
Think you know a lot about the Buffalo Sabres? Prove it. In a series of tests I'll be posting, each consisting of ten questions for the sake of keeping them short, followers will be able to show off their intelligence regarding our beloved franchise.
Some questions will seem easy. Others will appear odd but that's for the sake of wikipedia not doing all of the work. Who knows, there might even be a prize to be won at the end of it all. Post your answers in the comment sections and leave feedback on possible topics you'd like to see covered in the future or stating how difficult/easy you felt this was. Best of luck to all.
1) Who is the only Buffalo Sabres goaltender to have been credited with a goal? Bonus: he didn't actually shoot it into the net but rather was the last person to touch it before a member of the opposing team accidentally did it. Who was that unlucky player?
2) Before Jason Pominville's shorthanded overtime game-winner in game five of the 2006 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the Ottawa Senators, who was the last player to have scored a series deciding overtime goal for Buffalo?
3) Who is the last Sabres defenseman to have scored an overtime winner in the playoffs? Bonus: Who was the goalie he beat?
4) When Michael Peca was injured in the 1997-1998 season, who served as Buffalo's captain while he was away?
5) This player was drafted in the second round by Buffalo, played 26 games with the team (50 overall in the NHL) and was eventually claimed by Atlanta but didn't dress once for them. Name this individual. Hint: he is a Slovakian currently competing in Europe.
6) A goaltender who played one game representing Buffalo and didn't face a single shot. Who is this?
7) Acquired at the trade deadline, he contributed a goal and an assist in his first game as a Sabre and followed it up with a hat-trick in his second match. Who is this? Hint: he was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
8) Which former Sabre was known as the Boogieman?
9) Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers, he went on to become a sniper for the Buffalo Sabres. Who is this?
10) Finally, this veteran played for six different teams throughout his career. Buffalo was one of them but he played just nine regular season games with them and 20 in the playoffs. Who is this?
