Patrick Lalime has developed a reputation as a 'leaky' netminder in his three years with the Buffalo Sabres. Jhonas Enroth's exhibit in Toronto was assuring, with the win being arguably the most substantial for himself and the team. Starting three consecutive matches in early November, the Swede went past the 60-minute mark in each and conducted himself calmly in overtime and the shootouts.
With five points out of a possible six during that stretch, Buffalo's best momentum of the year was built on the back of a 22-year-old rookie. In his most recent opportunity, Enroth shielded off the Pittsburgh Penguins admirably, but the offense remained dry from the weekend.
If these facts are anything to go by, Lalime will not be resigned to another one-year contract, and Enroth's status will be as a permanent National Hockey League goaltender very soon. Still looking for his first win, Lalime hasn't supported his case by allowing a sluggish game-winning goal twice in as many chances. Benoit Pouliot's routine shot finding room inside the post was one thing, but the Adam Hall debacle could be the last straw.
Ahead of tonight's game, we'd like to hear your input on who deserves to be the unanimous second choice behind Ryan Miller.
