Nathan Paetsch cleared waivers now the Sabres have the next move. They can keep him on the roster like they did with Mair or they can send him to Portland.

I bet he stays up here, much like Mair did. There is no reason for Paetsch to take away playing time from the guys in Portland. Gragnani, Scheistel, Weber, Generous, Perrson, and Brennan should be eating up as many of the minutes as possible.

I say do the ole switcharoo. Send Paetsch down and bring Weber up. If Weber is going to crack the line-up or be a depth player for a playoff run it’d be nice to see him get some games in.

He will go to Portland, and rightly so. While I agree that he shouldn’t be taking away developmental minutes from our future defensemen, the bigger issue seems to be roster spots on the big club, and having 8 defensemen is useless. It seems like this move’s main purpose is to clear an active roster spot for Kaleta coming off of IR. Since Sekera has proven effective in the versatile depth player role, Paetsch is wasting that roster space. Perhaps Gerbe or Ennis could come up more often now?

what I believe waivers is… not the exact defintion here… A team places a player on “waivers” and then in order of worst to first has the right to claim him and his contract for the next 24(?) hours. If no team claims them then its the original teams decision to keep him up or send him down the the AHL. Its a way to move players with 1 way contracts. But youre taking a gamble that no one puts a claim on him.

At this point the player who has cleared waivers must do battle with the General Manager. Darcy will be dressed as a dragon and will be given nunchukas, Paetsch will have a spoon and loin cloth. If Darcy wins he can trade Paetsch for Jarko Ruutu, if Paetsch wins he becomes our starting goalie.
Sorry, Bflo, I know, it’s complicated.

Inaccurate

I was under the impression that Darcy would be dressed as a Dragon Variant III and will be given pom poms, Paetsch will be given a spork and (if I remember correctly) a throw towel – not a loin cloth.

I was also under the impression that if Darcy wins he can trade for ruutu – but i thought if Paetch wins he became our starting goalie on roller skates…….
