McCormick Sent Down, Stafford and Lydman Injured
Since the beginning of camp I have been against the promotion of Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy to Buffalo Sabres to begin the season. With the events that took place today, I think I was wrong. Cody McCormick was sent to Portland and Drew Stafford and Toni Lydman are bot injured. Stafford is suffering from a concussion and has not been ruled out for Saturday. Toni Lydman might have a more serious injury to deal with.
The injury to Stafford and the demotion of McCormick will open the door for Tim Kennedy and Nathan Gerbe to step into the lineup. If the injury to Lydman is serious, there is no doubt that Myers will remain on the roster and that might open the door for Mike Weber. There is still a chance the Sabres might try to move a player to make room for the four youngsters.
The Sabres have 26 players currently in camp and have to get to 23 by Wednesday at 2pm. If the injuries are serious enough, they can put Lydman, Stafford and Mair on the injured list and keep everyone. We will know by tomorrow what will happen and Saturday we get started. Go ahead and share your thoughts in the comments. What players will stay and what players will go.

How did Stafford get hurt? Was it during the leafs game?
Im excited to see these young kids get a chance to play. Obviously there will be some growing pains but they should be fun to watch for sure. Hopefully they can just put the puck in the net

Not sure
I think it happened last week because he wasn’t in the lineup this weekend.

I would like to see Gerbe and Kennedy get some playing time. I think they have shown that what they need is some solid NHL ice time. As for Myers, I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL. I like the idea of having a big man on D, but after watching him play in the pre-season, I think he needs some time to grow into his body and get some solid coaching on his mechanics. I believe he will be a solid player for us in the future, but I don’t want them to make the mistake of rushing him into the NHL.

Myers
The question isn’t whether he is ready for the NHL. The question is…where will he develop better Buffalo or Kelowna? I was a big proponent of him going back to junior but I’m starting to think that he will be better served in Buffalo. Kennedy and Gerbe need to play to be in Buffalo but Myers doesn’t have to be top six to stay in Buffalo.

So to counter the rise of toughness in the Northeast, we keep Mighty Mite Gerbe up and send down one of the few players that willingly will drop the gloves anytime, anywhere.
I love Lindy Ruff!

I can’t believe they sent McCormick down. I am very disappointed.

I really wanted a fourth line of mccormick ellis/mair and kaleta.
bflo’s right with mccormick being first up. Paille has never impressed me. Gerbe scores goals though. Mighty Mite has scored a lot this preseason.
I’d like to see Kennedy stick around.
Myers is a lock to me. The only place he will fully develop is in the NHL. Juniors won’t do diddly for him.

Never thought that much of Paille.. not a bad player but never seems to stand out. You could say that for quite a few players over the past 2 years.. but Paille for sure fits that catagory and thats not acceptable for such a high pick.

Isn’t the reason Cody was sent down because Mair is ready to go? I think Buffalo has more than enough toughness without him and enough guys who can throw down too (Rivet, Mair, Gaustad, Grier, Kaleta . . . Gerbe)
It'll be just you, me, and Peter Nincompoop.

Mair
Mair has been skating with the team but he is not cleared for contact. He could be ready by Saturday but the initial prognosis was he would miss the start of the season. I think the fourth line on Saturday night will be Paille-Ellis-Kaleta.

I thought
WGR stated yesterday that Mair was cleared to practice w/no limitations? Was WGR wrong?

This is from the Buffalo News today
The Sabres have 26 players on their roster. One way to keep everybody at least at the start would be to put Lydman, Stafford and Adam Mair (who is skating but still recovering from hip surgery) on injured reserve. That would leave the other 23 to fill out the lineup.
