I would give you a full recap of the game but quite frankly I have no idea what happened in this game.  Have I ever mentioned I hate they don't televise the pre-season games?  This is the recap from NHL.com in it's entirety.

DETROIT (AP) -Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek scored 2:21 apart in the third period to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

Paul Gaustad added an empty-net goal and Ryan Miller stopped 42 shots for Buffalo.

Johan Franzen scored for Detroit and Jimmy Howard made 17 saves.

Literally, that is the entire recap.  I will add that as I followed along and seen the Sabres getting outshot considerably and trailing 1-0, I immediately thought the worst.  It's nice to see they hung in there and pulled out a victory.  The goals coming from Vanek and Roy were encouraging as well.

I'm not a total Red Wings-hater,

But I like the Sabres, and it’s always nice to see Detroit lose to a team I like.

I found a stream online. It was ugly through 2 periods. It was…very ugly. Franzen’s goal had both Myers, Miller, and Gragnani sprawled on the ice, but no one in the net, let alone the entire crease.

But, that said, Ryan Miller was fantastic and was the whole reason the Sabres pulled out a victory. The top 2 lines look very good so far, and that 3rd line is going to be strong defensively.

Hopefully they can garner some more offensive pressure tomorrow in DC, I know Theodore will be in net the entire contest, so hopefully we’ll see some fireworks.

Here’s the important things I noticed from the game.

1. Ryan Miller looked healthy and had a fantastic game against one of the NHL’s elite teams (I know it’s preseason but its still 42 saves with rookies in 3 of the 6 D spots).

2. For the second straight game Mike Weber got 21+ minutes of ice time while Tallinder sat on the bench. There’s been rave reviews of his defense and physicality since the Sabres prospect camp. Lindy has already said that playing time is going to whoever plays best with no regards to contract and it looks like Weber is going to be taking the 6th D spot away from Tallinder.

3. After going 0 for 4 on the PP the first game, the Sabres are 1 for 2 today against a historically good penalty killing team. I honestly think Spacek was drastically overrated as a PP QB and we’ll be better this year without him, but it might take some time. Not sure who was on the ice when we scored but Rivet got the primary assist which is a great thing to see.

4. Everything I’ve heard so far has said that Myers has looked over matched so far. I thought he needed another year at juniors anyway, but with the ice time he’s been getting you get the feeling they are hoping he plays his way into the lineup now.

This particular game was televised on FS-Detroit

Miller was simply incredible—on the one goal that got past him he had a good case for interference, but he didn’t complain at all, which I like, especially in pre-season. I hate to see goalies lose their cool and act like babies (like the Brodeur hissy fit).

Sabres badly outshot, but once they got things going in the third period they started playing with some confidence and it was like a different team.

Myers was good; didn’t notice him much
