Preseason Game 2: Sabres vs. Red Wings Preview
Coming off the overtime loss at home to the Washington Capitals, the second half of the Sabres roster will play tonight against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Ryan Miller will get the start for the Sabres and he will play the entire game due to the fact that he is originally from East Lansing. Also playing in tonight's game will be Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy who have close ties to the Michigan area, Kennedy played at Michigan State while Gerbe is from Michigan.
The lineup for tonight's game comes from Sabres.com
FORWARDS: Tim Connolly, Matt Ellis, Pat Kaleta, Tim Kennedy, Paul Gaustad, Nathan Gerbe, Mike Grier, Clarke MacArthur, Jason Pominville, Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek
DEFENSE: Chris Butler, Toni Lydman, Tyler Myers, Nathan Paetsch, Craig Rivet, Mike Weber
GOALIES: Ryan Miller, Jhonas Enroth
Tonight's game will be devoid of prospects as only three players that have an outside chance of making the roster are in the lineup, Kennedy, Gerbe, and Myers. This means that tonight's lineup will most likely have a better chance of being competitive against a Red Wings lineup that appears to be very green. In goal for the Red Wings will be Jimmy Howard who appears to be the front runner for the backup goaltender spot behind Chris Osgood.
The lineup for the Red Wings comes from Ansar Khan at mlive.com
Goaltender Jimmy Howard will play the entire game, with Thomas McCollum serving as the back-up.
Forwards:
Johan Franzen-Pavel Datsyuk-Tomas Holmstrom
Kris Draper-Justin Abdelkader-Patrick Eaves
Tomas Tatar-Kris Newbury-Francis Pare
John Vigilante-Francis Lemieux-Jeremy Williams
Defense:
Nicklas Lidstrom-Jakub Kindl
Logan Pyett-Brian Rafalski
Jonathan Ericsson-Brett Lebda
For those who have sports packages through satellite and can get Fox Sports Detroit the game will be there, but it may be blacked out for our viewing area. For the rest of us, the game can be heard on WGR 550 and it starts at 7 pm.

Anyone else notice that’s only 11 forwards?
Even in preseason, I’m curious to why they wouldn’t dress 12.

That IS kind of odd…At least throw one of the prospects in there. I’m betting there’s another player that Sabres.com just forgot to put on there.

That is strange
I’m guessing that they will dress 12 but haven’t decided on the other player yet.

Apparently Paetsch was getting looks at LW at practice yesterday, so I guess that makes sense to a point.
But I just don’t understand why go with a short bench in a meaningless game when you could get a better look at a prospect.
Like you guys said, it could either just be an error or a game-time decision.
