They can't seriously be paying Ales Kotalik $3 million/season for three seasons. Glen Sather needs to be fired immediately. Anyone want to complain about Darcy now?

On the contrary

I’m just loving having Sather right where he is ;) Keep it up, Glen!

Well he has turned the Rangers into perennial play-off participants, which is more then I can say for another NHL team with the letters NY in front of their name…

Heh, true: Sather + $$$$ > Milbury + $ I will give him that.

But “perennial playoff participants?” I suppose, depending on the cut-off date. Like I said, I hope he keeps it up.

Before he got to NY, the Rangers struggled to make the play-offs, and had nothing in the minors. Now they make the play-offs almost every year, (granted they don’t go too deep, but at least they get to the dance) and they have some good depth in the minors, (more on the defensive side of the puck). He has been better then most give him credit for, but he does overspend.

Yes, they finally have some depth. I think he’s “improved” in some ways since the beginning of his tenure. But he has both overspent and wasted the resources and cap space granted him. He seems to treat each free agent period as an opportunity to throw the most money at the biggest names available. I’d put the playoff appearances on Lundqvist — an astute yet fortunate find — rather than on Sather.

Without hijacking this thread into a Battle of NY, having that much money is an opportunity to take some risks and leverage flexibility (e.g. the ability to spend all the way to the cap when needed). But he’s thrown money around at second-tier players and consequently squandered that advantage. That team should really be in a better position than it is.

Nothing to see here, just another overpaid player for Rangers fans to complain about.

Can I complain about Darcy because he obvoiusly has no idea what he is doing. You know all of those ridiculosly overpaid players that have left in the past few years would have fit so well here because they have all lived up to them

Really?

They’ve all lived up to them? Check the stats…I would say the Rangers are wishing they hadn’t committed so many years to Drury, the Blues just bought out Mckee, the Flyers were waiting to activate Briere after he recovered from his injury so they didn’t have to clear roster space for salary cap purposes (and I’ve read he’s on the trade block but no on wants him b/c of his SALARY!), and where is Mike Grier right now and how many playoff games has he won since Buffalo?
And you really think Kotalik will live up to 3 million?

Now, if you want to complain about the fact that Regier could have extended Drury, Campbell, Dumont, etc. for cheaper had he done it a year or 2 earlier, then I’m all ears.

I think he was being sarcastic

We can all agree that none of these players lived up to their contracts. There are some questionable signings since that time but we all thought they were good at the time (i.e. Jason Pominville and Jochen Hecht).

Yes, sorry the sarcasm writer needs to get repaired.

Whew!

Sorry, I’m normally a bottomless pit of sarcasm and I somehow missed it.

Seriously, it is way too early to pull the plug on Pominville. He was second on the team in scoring. He was 44th in the league. Note, there are 30 teams in the league, which means there are 90 guys on a top scoring line. So, in a way, you can say Pominville is in the top half of first line guys in the NHL. He was 11th in scoring among RW’ers – only a handful of points behind Hossa and Kane. I realize he had defensive lapses, which are not normal for him, but it is absurd to group him with Hecht.

It'll be just you, me, and Peter Nincompoop.

Never thoguht Kotalik would’ve gotten three a year, especially so late in the FA game.

Besides being overpaid, what would you guys say that I could expect to see from this guy?

Scouting Report

He plays a soft game for a big player. He is afraid to get in the corners and battle for a loose puck. He has pretty good offensive skills and an outstanding shot. If used properly he could be a power play specialist. He is one the best in the league at the shootout. Overall he is a disappointment but he does have some offensive skill. I thought he was overpaid at $2.5 million so $3 million seems like a huge mistake.

He’s the typical big guy who you always hope and expect to get more out of. On the rare occasion that he plays like someone p!ssed in his cornflakes, he’s a beast. I thought he was one of the Sabres’ best forwards the last time we were in the playoffs.

Dude likes the nightlife and nice clothes. One of those guys…

Not many better on the shoot out. Awesome shot. Needs to play with good players to be good.
