Maybe So , Always NO
Our GM does absolutely nothing to help this franchise. It took them 2 years to relieve the problem named Maxim Afinogenov. What happened to the days where they brought in players like LaFontaine and Mogilny, Hasek and even Brad May.
I'm not living in the past here, but those kind of players won games, look at the teams that win... They sign STAR players! Crosby, Malkin, Guerin ---- Ovechkin, Fedorov ---- Pronger, Briere, Richards ---- Sedin, Sundin, Luongo
You get my point, they all went to the playoffs and or won the cup!
It's like our GM lost his b@lls and decided to call it in. If it were me in there, I'd find a way to have Beauchemein in the line-up... but yep you guessed it, the smarter GM in Toronto bought him up... Toronto will be a force this year... and Buffalo better watch out! I'm a hardcore Buffalo fan and I know trouble on the ice when I see it. Montador was a good pick but not someone who will change our defence through and through.
We need a goal scoring d-man and a sniper at center...we have too many passing forwards and not enough snipers. Vanek is promising but I still don't think he should be a first line winger, there is someone better out there that Darcy needs to pick up ASAP!!!!!!
What are your thoughts about this ? I feel we have young prospects in our lineup but nothing sufficiant enough to say thy're stars like a Lecavailer was or like the first pick of this years draft is... How do we change what happened here! I guess it all starts with the front office... Just keep Ruff, he's a LEADER! Look what he did with young un-known players his whole career... imagine if he coached Anaheim or Detroit. He'd have 5 trophies and a fat paycheck.

Misguided Anger
It’s tough to win when you don’t spend to the cap…
this team is one or two difference makers away from being a real contender…unfortunately ownership is unwilling to spend to the cap to make the team competitive
sure we could shuffle around the chairs…but the bottom line is you generally get what you pay for (if you are even that lucky)….
Where's the "none of the above" poll option?
I don’t think much of what you’re saying makes a ton of sense. You start off complaining about Max but according to pretty much all indications we tried to trade him but nobody really wanted him. That’s why my guess is he’ll be playing in Russia next year. Then you move on to “signing star players”, which is exactly what we did when we met the offer sheet for Vanek. Claiming that he shouldn’t be playing on the top line is completely insane, he’s looking to be a 50-goal man if he can stay healthy for the whole season. If we had had the good fortune to draft 1st overall and pick up someone like Crosby or Malkin I guarantee we would have done everything possible to sign them as well. You make it sound like we could just go out and buy one of the top 3 players in the game – there’s a reason they’re not even on the market. And your last two examples – including Briere and Sundin aren’t very convincing since both of those signings are generally considered to be busts – the Cunucks are rid of Sundin and the Flyers are trying to get rid of Briere (while also apparently trying to deal with their salary cap mistakes in signing Pronger).
Long story short: most of the players you mention that we should presumably targeting in free agency are playing on the teams that drafted them. Most of the players were taken first or second overall (Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Lecavalier). Put two and two together = you have to be really bad in order to be lucky enough to draft players like that and since the Sabres haven’t been that bad in a long time there’s no real legit criticism here.
Don’t get me wrong though, there is plenty of good stuff to criticize the Sabres for, this just isn’t it.

Good point
I was going to make the point of the fact that most of the players mentioned were drafted by those teams and not free agents. Would TheNizz rather we finished dead last so that we could draft a player of this caliber for a few seasons? The Sabres front office is in a bind right now in that they have to sign entry players to real contracts now and don’t have the room. Don’t bash them too hard. Last season everyone wanted to get tougher across the blue line so they brought in Rivet to smash heads. Not enough? Now we bring in Montador also so people say they need more scoring from the blue line.
I don’t know why this needs to be said, but how is Vanek not a top-line winger?? He would be on the top line of every team in the league. And honestly you sit there and say “bring big-name talents in” but have you looked at the free-agent pool this year? And have you seen our cap space? Not pretty on either end.
