Sabres sign top draft pick Myers
Courtesy of the Buffalo News:
Tyler Myers is one of the hottest prospects in junior hockey. He's also one step closer to the NHL.
Myers, the Buffalo Sabres' top pick in the 2008 draft, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the team today. The 6-foot-8 defenseman was taken 12th overall.
Myers, a smooth-skating 19-year-old, capped a great week with the deal. The Houston native and Calgary resident was named Most Valuable Player of the Western Hockey League playoffs Saturday for putting up five goals and 20 points in 22 games. Myers led his Kelowna Rockets to the WHL title over the Calgary Hitmen and put them in the Memorial Cup.

thanks for the heads up on this one. I’m guessing that I’m not alone in saying “this is a great move by the Sabres”.

straight to Buffalo?
I’m assuming the plan is to start him in Portland this year. Has anyone heard anything different?
It's Buffalo or Kelowna
He still has one season of Junior eligibility left so he is ineligible to pay in the AHL. He can play with the Sabres or he will go back to play with Kelowna. The Sabres also have an option to play him for up to 10 games before sending him back if they wish.

I would love to see this guy sit one more year
gain some weight/ speed and then tear it up in the NHL
I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
Also...
It says a lot that Myers was selected playoff MVP. Teammate Jamie Benn Led all players in goals, assists and points and would have been an easy pick.
Also fellow Sabres prospect Tyler Ennis lit up the WHL this year. 43 goals and 42 assists we’re good for 6th in the goals and 10th in points. Another undersized C to go with Gerbe and Kennedy…..

Myers stays humble in face of overwhelming success
From globeandmail.com:
Kelowna Rockets head coach Ryan Huska enjoys telling this story about his 6-foot-7 defenceman Tyler Myers.
After the Rockets disposed of the Vancouver Giants in the WHL Western conference final a few weeks ago, Giants coach Don Hay remarked that he was going to phone Giants co-owner Pat Quinn to express his displeasure with his boss about the improvement Myers exhibited in his game since Quinn coached him at the world junior hockey championship in Ottawa earlier this year.
"There was a big change in Tyler’s game after he returned from the world junior," said Huska, whose Rockets meet the Windsor Spitfires in the Mastercard Memorial Cup final on Sunday afternoon. "I think he realized that he can play with the best of his age group in the world and do a very good job at it. I think that raised his confidence level a lot and he really did take his game to another level.
