A Tough Loss to Swallow
Sabres fall behind 3-0 and a furious third period rally fell short. I'll have a full recap later tonight or tomorrow but share your thoughts here.

I just can’t figure out how this team hasn’t realized that they need to come out in the FIRST period with desperation and hunger…….not wait till the third period.
It boggles my mind – how many points have they thrown away in that fashion this season?
You're right
It’s been especially frustrating to see them fall behind in so many HOME GAMES, where you think they’d come out flying with the crowd behind them……only to fall behind and try – furiously – to catch up late in the game. Statistics may not bear it out, but if you’ve watched all the games, we have played this way much of the season. We weren’t flat last night but we have been far too many times. It almost seems like we play better – all three periods – on the road, than we do at home.
I have to laugh. People say if we “run the table” – even now – we can still get in the playoffs. OK – fine, but then why were all these previous games in the last five weeks called "MUST games? Obviously, none of them were. Important games – yes; “must” games – no, as it turns out.
Sad that we controlled our own “destiny” for the first time last night……and threw it away.
Maybe we got spoiled a couple of years ago. The last two years are disappointing. We haven’t been the same since we let Briere and Drury leave. Losing Biron didn’t help, either. I miss all three of them.

Must Games
I think we thought to highly of the Rangers and the Panthers. Reality says that the Sabres should probably be eliminated right now but because other teams have faltered, it opened the door for the Sabres.
Keep in mind that the Sabres won most of those must games. I remember personally calling the Rangers game a must win and the Sabres lost. If they had won that game, they would be tied with the Rangers right now. When they miss the playoffs, we will look back at that game as a big reason they are eliminated.

Yeah, I also remember a game
maybe a month or more ago against Carolina. The Canes were reeling and a victory by us, everyone said, would just about ruin them. Well, we lost (at home, of course), gave them another life and look what happened. They have long since passed us.
I’ll remember that game as another crucial loss. It sticks in my craw, for some reason, more than the rest…… although last night’s game was certainly very demoralizing.
