Daily Roundup for 3/9
Sunday was just as unfriendly to the Sabres as Saturday was. The Rangers, Penguins and Canadiens all earned two points and the Sabres fell further down the standings.
Sabres Links
- Not a whole lot brewing in the Sabres blogosphere so I thought I'd share a couple of worksheets I have done with you. This is how the Sabres were built and this is the salary cap picture for the Sabres.
- Hockey's Future recently posted their Spring 09 rankings for the Sabres. We didn't get to see Enroth play in a Sabres uniform but Hockey's Future thinks we will someday.
Other Playoff Foes
- Pensburgh takes a look at the Penguins 4-3 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals.
- The Caniacs are excited as the Canes have won three in a row and have scored 20 goals in three games.
- Kuklas Korner has a video of the brainfart by Marty Turco that helped the Canadiens get two points and move farther ahead of Buffalo.
Around the NHL
- Scott Burnside takes a look at the GM meetings that begin this morning.
- We head back to Kuklas Korner for a story about internet rumors. It's really a good read but it's also unfortunate. It's situations like this that give all bloggers a bad name.
Games of Interest Tonight
There is only one game of interest tonight and that is the NY Rangers at the Carolina Hurricanes. I think we are rooting for no overtime, beyond that I'm not sure it matters.

So you've written off the Sens and Leafs?
Ottawa may have a 1/1000 chance, but it’s still a chance.

I'll try to be as nice as possible
but yeah…I’ve already written off the Sens and Leafs.
The Sens have owned the Sabres this season so I should probably give them more respect but they dug themselves too deep of a hole and will not have enough time to get back in the race. If 92 points is the magic number (and I think it is) the Sens would have to go 18-1 in their final 19 games…sorry but that isn’t happening.

Basically
9-6-1 will get us to 92 points

BTW...
How did the suspension hearing against Volchenkov go for his headhunting incident against Kaleta on Saturday?

Did he have one
I haven’t heard anything which is a joke since the league is preaching no head shots.

As we have long known, with the unpunished headhunting incidents of Neil vs. Drury, Ovechkin vs. Briere and now Volchenkov v. Kaleta, blows to the head in deliberate attempts to injure are considered trivial by the league if the victim is wearing blue and gold.
The only thing I’m surprised about is that you even thought there might be some sort of action taken when pretty much everyone else knew that the league was going to ignore it.

Call it wishful thinking
I guess by pointing it out in some small way I was trying to set up a “The league is a joke” story to put on the site. It’s something I think I’ll work on in the near future.
