Where are the Sabres of 2 Yrs ago?

Watching the classic Sabres/Senators Brawl

I wondered what happened to that team.  Spunk and ferocity.  We are down in shots on goal and defensive toughness. Where is the fight?  Frustrating to watch the game when we have the potential to be better.

What changed? My speculations

Losing leaders/studs Briere and Drury to Free Agency.

Golisano owning the Sabres and running it like one of his corporations - focus on keepin a bottom line instead of maintaining a high performance squad.  Our trade deadline acquisitions are ZZZZZ.  No major talent or play makers.

Honestly will not be suprised if we finish 9th or 10th again.

Welcome to the site

Always happy when we have new people signing up and posting. Let’s see if I can tackle these questions one by one.

I think we still see this at times but not consistently. I’m not sure we seen it consistently two years ago either. In fact the Sabres were criticized heavily for being too soft in the playoffs that season. They won more games so nobody was talking about the lack of toughness when they were winning.

I think this has always been the case but i wouldn’t call the team cheap. They have spent plenty of money and were right up against the cap a couple of seasons ago. They haven’t done much at the trade deadline but I also don’t think that very much was available to get.

Honestly will not be surprised if we finish 9th or 10th again.

Me neither but I hope it’s eighth!
