Game Day Preview: Florida Panthers vs. Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres have lost their last two games in spectacular fashion.  So spectacularly that most Sabres fans are starting to jump off the playoff ledge.  The Sabres do still have a chance in making the playoffs but that chance is starting to get slimmer and slimmer as the games tick on.

The Florida Panthers come into town only four points ahead of the Sabres.  They play in Buffalo twice this month, once tonight and again on 3/25.  For the Sabres to make any ground in getting over the playoff line, they need to get points in these two games among others.

Tim Connolly, Max Afinogenov and Jochen Hecht were held out of practice on Tuesday due to the flu bug that is going around the lockerroom.  They were back in practice today but it does note one thing about this team.  The team is usually not clicking in one area of their game.  The past few games the offense cannot seem to find the back of the net.  Vanek has been fairly quiet as he has tried to get back into form after breaking his jaw.

The Panthers are heading into the game a little banged up.  Nathan Horton is going to be out for two to four weeks with a sliced tendon on his finger and Bryan McCabe is out after getting surgery on his orbital bone.  Considering that the Panthers are just as desperate though, they will be ready to play tonight.

Game time is 7:00 pm on MSG.
