SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

Congrats to JSCoope on winning the prize for November. I will be contacting you soon to get mailing information.

If you’re going by “the first few minutes show how the Sabres will play tonight”, well then this is a good sign.

by Afino on Dec 9, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

Nice backcheck by Roy.

by Afino on Dec 9, 2009 7:29 PM EST reply actions

Two goals

Washington missed the net twice on open nets so we’re fortunate. Morrison on one, Ovechkin the other.

by Rafal Ladysz on Dec 9, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

Wow, was that Roy making that move?

by Afino on Dec 9, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

About as good as it gets, really.

Henrik Tallinderenaissance. Welcome back Hank.

Delightfully Ignoring The Truth since 1995.

by NeverendingOptimism on Dec 9, 2009 8:35 PM EST reply actions

Yes. And their 2nd periods are usually horrid.

Gerbe’s goal should be played by the coaching staff during every video session for the rest of the season. Shoot for chrissakes.!

Ta,

by Tom Luongo on Dec 9, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

Tallinder with the Brian Leetch impression.

by Rafal Ladysz on Dec 9, 2009 8:37 PM EST reply actions

This is why I love the Gerbs. He plays hard.

by JSCoope on Dec 9, 2009 8:41 PM EST reply actions

im very impressed that both players we’ve called up have scored a goal, makes me feel good about the future of the sabres

by manic hispanic on Dec 9, 2009 8:49 PM EST reply actions

Finally caught up on the DVR

Comments:

1) This team, with Grier, Gaustad, and a full complement of defense in the lineup, is going to be a machine come playoff-time. These guys are a collective tank at the clutch-and-grab game.
2) What a game by the mouse. Maybe Gerbe will stick in the big leagues yet.
3) Myers has had some trouble with the offense tonight, but what a grewat job the kid has done defending Ovechkin all night. Who cares about a couple turnovers when he’s shutting down the league’s best scorer?
4) Gee, you think Hank is in a contract year?
5) Seriously impressed with Vanek’s play tonight. He looks great.
6) Sabres are perfect in regulation when holding a 2 or more goal lead at any time. So let’s ope the team is thinking about the number zero.
7) Connolly’s not turning the puck over for a change. Nice surprise.

Also, without Goose we seriously suck at faceoffs.

What would you guys say the odds are that Burkie is willing to trade us Kaberle at the deadline? Not what are the odds we get him, just what are the odds Burke is willing to trade him within the division?

by HarryNeale'sGarden on Dec 9, 2009 9:03 PM EST reply actions

Probably not likely, besides who would he take in return from our team?

Die By The Blade - An SB nation destination for Sabres fans everywhere

by Zachary Zielonka on Dec 9, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

I’m sure a package could be put together. We desperately need another puck-moving defenceman and he’s the best one available.

by HarryNeale'sGarden on Dec 9, 2009 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

We have defensive depth through the organization that Burke doesn’t have, so, at a minimum, he’d want someone like Butler or Brennan (who he can’t have). He’d want Ennis as well, as the Leafs have garbage up front in the pipeline. Butler/Ennis for a Kaberle rental? No way.

Considering the stupid return he got for Kessel, I don’t trade Burke anymore assets. If you want another puck-mover… go after Ballard in Florida. A deal could be worked out there, but we’d have to take some salary.

The best idea I’ve heard so far is to re-sign Tallinder and trade some defensive depth, like McNabb, for help up front. Our top 4 forwards are not good enough for a run. Our defense is close.

Ta,

by Tom Luongo on Dec 9, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

He's got a NTC.

So there’s two people that have to be willing.

by twoeightnine on Dec 9, 2009 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

He probably wants to go to a contender seeing as he’s only signed for one more season. I think he’ll agree to a trade several places.

Like I said, I don’t honestly think we’ll trade for him. Just curious as to whether Burke would move him in the division since he has another year left. Doesn’t seem like a Burkie thing to do.

by HarryNeale'sGarden on Dec 9, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

They gotta stay alert

by Rafal Ladysz on Dec 9, 2009 9:08 PM EST reply actions

MY GOD WITHOUT GOOSE WE ARE SO HORRID AT FACEOFFS

by HarryNeale'sGarden on Dec 9, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Hah Ovie’s cherry-picking.

by HarryNeale'sGarden on Dec 9, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

Haha. Thats cool.
