SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

Congrats to JSCoope on winning the prize for November. I will be contacting you soon to get mailing information.

Mobile Site

Remember that you can visit http://mobile.diebytheblade.com to visit the mobile site and you can comment from wherever you watch the game.  Hope to see you here.

Most dominant period of the year

Razor said a few time that flying through the neutral zone and hitting the blue line with speed was what was making them so dangerous and I have to agree. Their offensive game looks more like the free-wheeling post-lockout style, but they’re being responsible on defense as well. If we could only play like this every game…

by Afino on Dec 3, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I knew that, but I didn’t think it’d be something that would take. Is this a Bowman like move by Ruff, like the way Bowman played Housley at center to revive his offensive game, or is it just because someone else couldn’t play?

by krytime on Dec 3, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think it was a matter of no one “deserved” to be benched, especially considering the most likely candidate was Sekera, and he’s been playing well.

Yeah, the biggest disappointment is that the Bills didn’t even pretend to care. I saw no statement from the team about Rochester fans. They have their training camp here and about 1/4 of season tickets from here, but now….
This is the first time I’ve felt betrayed by the whole Toronto thing. If this wasn’t in Toronto, it wouldn’t be on Thurs. night, and we wouldn’t have to worry about a blackout for a “home” sellout.

Where's the instigator?

The league has been completely ignoring a rule that they instituted a few years ago. This fight was within 5 minutes of regulation, and there was no reason for Mara to spark that.

I guess the one good thing about it never getting called is that at least SOMETHING is consistent.

Pet peeves here. NFL (or DirecTV) has this game as “Bills @ Jets”. Huh?

About faceoffs and Roy...

He won 7 of 16. First game in some time since he was under 50%.

I can’t find any season stats but I wanted to this morning when I was seeing the comments about Goose – deservedly – but nobody mentioning Roy.

He’s playing hard during his TOI. At least to this guy who’s only watching what’s on the screen. Right now this is a player I want on my team doing what he is come April.

(And yeah, I know I’m in the minority with good fans.)

not with me

I really think he’s stepped up his game this year and it’s starting to pay off on the score sheet.

Roy is definitely my favorite Sabre. He has some dumb moments but in general he’s playing really good 2-way hockey and making things happen when he is on the ice.
