Sabres Waive Adam Mair
This comes from TSN's Bob McKenzie and it seems to be a curious move for the Sabres.

hmm interesting move… I wonder what this means? Something more has to come from this right?

Interesting indeed
With Lydman set to come off of IR, we need to make a roster move to get back down to 23. Apparently they don’t want to send Enroth back down at this point but if that were the case wouldn’t they just put Lalime on IR? They clearly value Paetsch more than Mair because of his ability to play D and wing, but sending Mair to Portland seems odd at this point in his career

I personally value Paetsch more than Mair too just because hes more versitile… but I dont believe he’ll clear waivers. He’ll get picked up by another team if I had to guess.

I do too (referring to Paetsch). I was just running thoughts through my head about what the decision making process was here for the Sabres. I would doubt he gets picked up by another team. That would be one desperate team.

Yeah having Paetsch as a healthy scratch makes much more sense than having Mair. Idk maybe its just that Mairs been here awhile so it would be kind of weird without him… but I dont think I’d feel too bad if he did get picked up by another team. When we have a full healthy roster he doesnt fit in. Obviously were not staying healthy all year cuz no team does… but I dont think he fits in on this team like he has in the past.

Yea with Ellis and Kaleta and now with Kennedy/Grier pushing Goose to the 4th line, we don’t have room for him. Maybe the thinking here is that if they need depth for injuries that they will use the farm team. I’m all for having Mancari, Gerbe, Ennis or Golgula come up in time of need to play some minutes and get experience

or McCormick who has NHL experience as a 3rd-4th liner already

definately agree.
speaking of Mancari… do you think he’ll ever get a chance with buffalo? Idk what it is about him but it just seems like hes never going to be that guy that Buffalo brings up. With his size and scoring ability you would think he would be able to crack the lineup one of these times in the past few years with injurys but he never seems to be the guy we talk about bringing up. Hes another odd player in the farm system I just can figure out. I dont see him ever getting a shot here.

Problem as I see it with Mancari is that Lindy doesn’t like his defensive play. I think he’s a heck of a talent, but it would be nice to see it when he comes up. Unfortunately though, he seems to get like a game at a time. Hard to adjust to the NHL speed in one game. I’d love to see him for an extended period of time, say 5-10 games, to see what he’s made of. Big body, big shot, soft hands. Seems like a good combination. Then again Stafford has that too and he doesn’t do too much either….

20 goals and 25 assists in 79 games. I always feel the same way about Stafford but 45 points and a +3 isn’t really nothing, is it?

Just not enough
For a top line winger in my opinion. And honestly my problem with Stafford is the way he plays, not his numbers. He’s a lazy, non-physical guy who should use his body in the corners and drive the net. He always seems to load up on points against bad teams. Like a hat trick in a game we won 6-1 last year in Edmonton I believe (might be inaccurate on the final score and team). Just seems like he’s always lights out when we’re killing a team

Mair has had a few big injuries (concussion, hip?) and honestly, you can find someone better and cheaper. Also a minor salary dump too, I would guess.

I'm a big fan of Mair
but I guess I can see this as a valid move. The way all four lines have been rolling, it would be hard to send down anyone in the current lineup. I’ll miss him if he doesn’t when he doesn’t clear waivers but at the same time there isn’t a huge need for him right now.

I like Adam Mair a lot, but I’m not surprised by the move. He really seems like the kind of guy you want to root for here in Buffalo. The problem is that he’s getting older (like we all are I guess), he’s coming off of some injuries, and he really doesn’t produce that much. They are plenty of fringe AHL guys who can do what he does, and maybe even better.
I’d like to see him sneak through waivers and go to Portland. I’m not sure if I really see anyone picking him up. I’d like to keep him in the organization if possible. I could also see him as a coach someday.
