SPG Game
I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game. Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it. I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post. As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.
What is the SPG Game?
"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal". The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.
How Does it Work?
You receive one point for every correct prediction you make. This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.
How Do I Sign Up?
The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics. You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account. After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.
Prizes?
There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season. The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey. We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

End of 1
Teams playing alright – they’re winning SOG but we’re winning faceoffs. Gotta get on the board sooner rather than later.
this is one of those games where
if you’re on the road, you’d kind of feel okay with that period despite being down 1-0. Since it’s a home game, despite the awkward white jerseys, you have to feel kind of bummed with that period.
Game has gotten physical
This is starting to feel like the Sabres-Flyers match ups we know and love.
Watching the Flyers feed on Gamecenter
They conveniently decided not to show the replay on that weak call. First non-replay-to-commercial all night.
I do miss watching the Buffalo commercials. Gamecenter doesn’t show any commercials at all when using the away feed…

It’s gonna take a 3rd period comeback. We’ve seen the Sabres control the game from the 1st many times so far. I’m not sure they can comeback yet. It will be a big step to do it against a legit team. I’ve got faith…
End of 2
Got outshot 14-8. Bad period for Buffalo – looked too much like the team from last year, playing back on their heels as soon as the going got tough. All 3 Flyers goals are weird bounces/deflections. We need to score early in the third to get the momentum back and the crowd back into the game.
Remember in '05
We’d be down by 2 goals in the third, come back to tie it, and win it in overtime. Seemed like that happened 10 times that year. I remember thinking that we were never ever out of a game – would love to see that feeling come back!

Harry could not have talked about Myers with less emotion. Philly’s announcer has a great ’stache. For some reason, all their mics have neon green wires. Somehow this is worse than watching Sylvester.

I agree
At the same time, the offense doesn’t have it today. We are on a 2 week long winning streaks…streak, so we are expecting a lot. I guess now we are having out horrible game. It will happen, and get ready for the exciting “game we shouldn’t win!”, win. This team will make the playoffs, and so far, they have shown the seeding doesn’t even matter. Don’t worry in November.

is pretty good, too. Important one tomorrow on the road against a division opponent. Bruins have a lot of guys out so hopefully we’ll take that one.

Philly is really agressive
on the penalty kill. And we finally took advantage of it on that goal. I like that we’re still playing really hard.

I predicted this at the start of the season...
The Sabres were a bad team last year, added no one significant, and simply had a lucky 7 game stretch at the start of the season. Their slide off the top of power rankings lists will be immediate.
This team will finish between 9th and 7th place at the end of the season. We simply dont have the talent.

What bothered me...
…was that Ruff knows how to beat Emery: you get him moving side to side. When you get Emery to stand up, he’s exceptionally hard to beat. You get him thinking about where the pass is going to go and he collapses. For most of the game the Sabres were taking good shots at Emery but they were the types of shots that he handles well…straight on. I wanted to strangle C-Mac through much of the game for simply staying immobile near the front of the net and trying to blast one past Emery. That simply doesn’t work against him. Emery almost always buys the deke and no one save Roy even tried to do it to him.

No thanks, I'll pass on the embarrasing 1st or 2nd round playoff loss to Philly or Pitts. I also don't have the stomach for another Conference Finals loss.
Watch them actually beat Boston tonight and make everyone think everything is just fine, then lose 5 of the next 11 as well as the division lead to Ottawa.
