SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

Congrats to zaniac75 on winning the October prize of a Buffalo Sabres poster.  I finally sent it out this week.

It's a great day

to be a Hokie! Hopefully it’ll be a great day to be a Sabres fan as well. Looking forward to this one against our “friends” from Ottawa.

Let’s go Buff-a-l….oh, screw it, it’s Ottawa.

Because I’m a Sabres fan, I will watch this game. I’ll concede the two points, just nobody get hurt!

Ottawa has been hot, Sabres have not. I really don’t see the Sabres winning this game after losing last night. I’ll still watch though.

If this game doesn’t get any more exciting, I’m going to have to find better things to do. Like go out and get drunk.

Really?

I’ve thought it’s been pretty exciting. A lot of back-and-forth action. Then again, I’m already drunk.

Yawn.

I called this game before it even began. Now I’m just wondering what the insane optimistic spin is going to be.

by Ron A on Nov 21, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Do you even like this team? You’re hell bent on knocking them, that’s for sure. But at the same time, you’re “producing” individual player highlight indie films. Cybill?

I would love to hear your version of what they should/shouldn’t have done over the last few years, front office wise.

by krytime on Nov 22, 2009 3:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Was that your sad attempt at insulting me?

by Ron A on Nov 23, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Again – I’ll say this:

I would love to hear your version of what they should/shouldn’t have done over the last few years, front office wise.

You are so eager to rip this organization. I would like for you to answer this question – What should they have done the past three off seasons? I don’t think you have an answer. My guess is that you’re the kind of guy who doesn’t have answers, but just likes to criticize.

by krytime on Nov 23, 2009 4:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not going to answer your blatantly off-topic question, because it has nothing to do with this thread. Why did I say that “I called this game before it even began”?

1) I knew the Sens were coming off a 2 game win streak, including an impressive victory over the defending Cup champs.

2) Along with Atlanta, the Sens are one of the teams we just cant seem to beat, no matter what. When was the last time we dominated them, 3 years ago?

3) The Sabres offense is not producing. Our best player, Connolly, has 17 points? Vanek has 13 points? Excuse me?! Roy has 4 goals IN 20 GAMES? Nobody on our offense is even in the Top 40 in the league.

4) The team just cost Miller the lead in save %, and will probably cost him the Vezina.

5) Patrick “just chalk up another loss” Lalime was the starting goalie.

I knew the Sens were going to win, and win by scoring a ton of goals while the Sabres would only put up 2 or 3. It had nothing to do with my fanship, I knew the odds were against us going in and therefor called it a loss before the puck even dropped.

Saying “Nothing hits the spot like a good ol’ fashioned losing streak” illustrates my frustration. I shouldn’t be able to “call” the results of a Sabres game before it even begins, especially calling a loss. Losses should come from bad bounces or a surprisingly fantastic effort by individual players from the other team. Just like I shouldn’t have to say this, but they will give up the division title by the end of the year at the rate they’re going.

Did it ever occur to you that it’s not that I don’t like my team, but more that I just don’t like YOU, krybaby?

Nobody is forcing you to read my comments, not reply to them. You don’t like them, go take a hike instead of complaining about it.

by Ron A on Nov 23, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ron...

this was your best post yet and you had to end it that way. I love the back and fort but there is no room for personal insults. One more personal insult and you will be gone. Maybe we wonder what your motive is because you were no where to be found during the three game winning streak but miraculously you find your way back during a losing streak.

"Krybaby" is a personal insult?

You’ll pick my comments apart with a tweezers and microscope, but overlook krytime’s (appropriately named) jabs about my choice of careers:

“you’re "producing" individual player highlight indie films” & "I’m tempted to just “yawn” here…" (carrying animosity over to other threads)

Or what about in a previous thread where you blatantly ignored this little gem:
“It was the one your girl left behind before her walk of shame…”

That’s easily 10x worse than my "tear-stained pink Regier jersey" comment. Where’s his warning for all to see? Oh, I see how this works… And you know what, I was about to post a comment saying that I apologize for the Regier jersey comment, but if he makes one more comment about my girl or my job, we’re going to settle this one in person. But I’m sure you would have deleted that one as well, right?

The fact remains, he brought the animosity and irrelevance into this conversation. You pardon him and threaten me? "Ohhhh nooo, Ron told krytime to take a hike! Call the fire department! Call homeland security!"

"you were no where to be found during the three game winning streak but miraculously you find your way back during a losing streak"

Um, I dunno about that. I’m pretty sure this was the first game thread in the losing streak that I’ve even commented on. I am so so so terribly sorry that I have two jobs, an internship, a girlfriend, a car to work on, a studio to run, house remodeling and 4 acres of land to take care of before the snow falls. My bad.

by Ron A on Nov 23, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll give you points one, two, and a little of three (funny how you stuck up for Connolly in another post). I was actually amazed when you offered up some worthwhile comments. This one though, made me scratch my head:

4) The team just cost Miller the lead in save %, and will probably cost him the Vezina.

What does that mean? I really don’t get it. Please explain further if you wouldn’t mind…

I also agree with your feelings on Lalime, as many of us do. Without Miller, this is probably not a playoff team, unless someone from outside the organization is brought in.

Saying "Nothing hits the spot like a good ol’ fashioned losing streak" illustrates my frustration

So you are actually a fan? I honestly couldn’t tell before this. Now for the rest..

Ron – let’s get this one over, once and for all. Jesus…

Listen – you started this. You went after me on the salary cap thing. Again, I wasn’t as wrong as you made it out to be, but that wasn’t good enough for you.

You accused me of being a Sabre apologist. That is not the case at all, and never will be. Your take on my "rehashed excuses" was boring and inaccurate to say the least. I have been very critical of the organization for many years. "Deal with it."

I’ve asked you repeatedly to discuss what you would have done differently if you were in charge. All you do is gripe about them, but offer nothing to really substantiate it. "Let’s stay on track. Simple terms, jimbo:" – what would you have done differently? "You don’t have exact numbers? What a surprise."

You’ve had the word "yawn" in the subject matter on one of your posts. Yet you’re offended when someone else uses the same word on you? Huh? I don’t get that.

I never once bagged on your choice of careers. In fact, I think I wished you well with your Connolly video [exact quote: "I’m tempted to just “yawn” here… But, I won’t. Instead I’ll wish you well on the project."]. And knowing what I know now, I applaud your busy schedule. I did however, wonder why you seem to hate the team so much, yet choose to do a side project highlighting one of the under performing guys (at times) on the team.

As to your “tear-stained pink Regier jersey” comment – that’s pretty much calling someone a homosexual. You think I was going to stand for that? When you typed that out, did you not think I would respond aggressively? And come on…you were not planning on apologizing for that comment. I seriously doubt between then and now you ever thought, "Oh, maybe I shouldn’t of said that, and maybe I should apologize."

we’re going to settle this one in person.

That would be a mistake on your part. I’ve never turned down an invitation…

problem was Lalime didn’t play too bad, 3 of those goals he had no chance on.
