SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

Congrats to zaniac75 on winning the October prize of a Buffalo Sabres poster.  I will be sending that out shortly.

Remember that you can visit http://mobile.diebytheblade.com to visit the mobile site and you can comment from wherever you watch the game.  Hope to see you here.

I’ll take first, thank you very much

First game I get to watch live in a long time, I’ve had to DVR the past 5 games. Except the late start means I’m going to miss most of the 3rd period

Yeah….I really don’t care if they “play a full 60 minutes”….that was the crap they’ve been saying for two playoffless seasons. You don’t have to play a full 60 minutes, you just have to come up with a W at the end of the night! Coming out with games like this one is how you get into the playoffs. Once in, that’s when you can’t afford to take a period off.

It’s okay. I have him for first penalty in the third.

The ice is looking pretty beat up. That helps against a team like Edm, not Cal.

yeah

been bad all season. Warm temps, Metallica and three straight games can’t help.

they were pointing at the Flames bench but it might have been a signal for a face-off.

winning the puck battles like that in the offensive end, something good is bound to happen.

My first game ever was against the Flames…in 76 or 77 I think. It was a 9-4 win.

I think my first was Calgary as well

I want to say it was 80 or 81.

My reference to 9-4 was how we were outscored last weekend. Whew!

Actually, now that I think, it was a 9-5 game. I remember my Dad being made they gave up that many goals.

I went to the game the last time we played Calgary in 06-07 – it was the first shootout I saw live.

Tallinder’s been really impressive.

Amazing, every other game is a blow out and this is classic.

quick question

i just watched the game on the MSG feed, and after the last save by Miller, did the broadcaster guy just yell, to yell? Or was he yelling something i just couldnt understand?

by Kent K on Nov 13, 2009 10:21 PM EST reply actions

I missed it.

Without a replay and knowing it was Miller, I’d guess Rick J said:

“Milllllleeerrrrrrrr!!!!!”

Knowing Rick J it’s very possible he was indeed just yelling though.

Fantastic game though, even if I only caught the second half of it.
