SPG Game
I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game. Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it. I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post. As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.
What is the SPG Game?
"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal". The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.
How Does it Work?
You receive one point for every correct prediction you make. This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.
How Do I Sign Up?
The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics. You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account. After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.
Prizes?
There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season. The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey. We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.
Congrats to zaniac75 on winning the October prize of a Buffalo Sabres poster. I will be sending that out shortly.

The Roy Line looks good
Pominville just failed to get his stick on the pass from C-Mac or this game would be 1-0.

Sure was
the first two lines look really good tonight. The new lines are the lines I wanted straight out of camp but they went back to Roy with Stafford and Vanek.

Quote of the night
this is via Greg Wysh on Twitter
Through 14 minutes, this #Caps/#Isles game is like watching a drunk guy attempt to sprint through a room full of marbles. 3-2 NYI
Absolutely hilarious.

The guy who claims to be a Devils fan but actually loves the Capitals more.
Just read him once in a while, you think the Capitals are the only team in the NHL just because he lives in D.C.
I think so

Power Play = Not Good
Overall it was a decent period but they had a real chance with that power play and they didn’t take advantage. I hope that doesn’t come back to bite them.

Agree
Happy we’re winning but not exactly a very entertaining period of hockey. I watched some of that wild first period between the Caps and Isles – a fun game to watch.

why was everyone booing gaustad during the philly game? I saw the islanders game last week, but there was no sound at the bar, what gives?
Are you sure they were booing?
they often do the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE chant for him. Like we used to do the BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE chant in the 80’s and 90’s.

"Playing well but taking a lot of penalties."
oxymoron. playing stupid and taking a lot of penalties.
What an awful period
I guess the Sabes are trying to help the Oilers since they have so many players in the injured list. How many stupid penalties can one team take in a period?

im just asking who he is, ive only been in the US since ’05. That is when my hockey fandom began. All i know is he is a journalist.
I will say this
I’m sure he is a nice guy to those who he is friends with but he seemed to be kind of standoffish at the prospect camp at Niagara University.

I’ll call him out on that!! If he did that, shame on him. And I mean that. You gotta play the role, even if the camera’s not on…
I didn’t personally talk to him or even try to. I’m sure he was being bothered by many people so I kind of understood why he would be that way. Who knows what he had going on as well…I know they were doing many features before, during and after the practice.
I was surprised by how big he is. I always thought he was a small guy from the way he looks on TV.

I’m falling more for Kennedy game by game. I am really impressed by his defensive prowess at times. Did he learn that in Rochester, or did he learn it in the last three months? That was on his scouting reports when he was drafted…
Last season in Portland
I talked to Ryan Messenick who did the broadcasting for road games last season and he was thoroughly impressed wit his improvement last season.

I think everyone pretty much loves Kennedy
This kid has a ton of potential. He kinda reminds me of Roy as a rookie (always giving a big effort, always making some sort of play) but with a bit more skating ability.
This is a terrible call
the guy is falling down into the boards and gets hit by MacArthur. This is an example of calling the injury instead of the action.

seriously. Its just non-existent back home. I came to the US as an NBA fan, arrived in Buffalo as a Pistons fan. I hate football so the Bills weren’t an option, gave hockey a shot and even though I didn’t fully understand it the first few times it just loved it, after about 5 games i was just hooked. I dont give a shit about the NBA at all anymore, Im simply a hockey fan.
Well, we’re glad to have you. Feel free to ask any questions. I think many of us would be happy to oblige…

hockey is a great sport and I enjoy teaching people the nuances of the game.
