SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

Mobile Site

Remember that you can visit http://mobile.diebytheblade.com to visit the mobile site and you can comment from wherever you watch the game.  Hope to see you here.

besides the two off-setting penalties,

pretty even strength hockey. Really liked the way Grier came to Kennedy’s rescue there in the middle of the period despite what many would call a clean hit.

by KTyczka on Oct 28, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

God this team is so different from last year…

I was a little disappointed that Montador didn’t step in and just drop the gloves on the guy who hit Kennedy. I though it was a cheap shot.

How is Goose the leading faceoff taker (is that the right phrase) when he plays the 4th line? Nice job by Ruff to get the leagues leader in.

How come no one has mentioned the biggest reason for Hank’s turnaround – he’s in a contract year.

Miller looks sharp if you ask me. You could practically see his eyes move on deflections and the like.

Butler and Rivet leading in TOI – how odd.

Kaleta made a run at someone near the 15 minute mark maybe when he should’ve played the puck. Dude’s gotta wait for those chances.

Sometimes I don’t mind listening to different announcers. A different perspective never hurts from time to time. Doc really isn’t that bad in my book.

I don’t care if Scott Stevens is only on the bench; he still scares me. One of my favorite players of all time. If he ever gets to be a head coach, I’d say him and Mike Singletary are tied for the two scariest ever.

Clarke continues to make my preseason musings look dumb. I hope he contnues to prove me wrong.

I wish Kennedy would win more faceoffs.

by krytime on Oct 28, 2009 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

I agree w/ the Montador thing, although I’d probably complain if he took a penalty and they scored on the power play…beggars can’t be choosers.

Kaleta is Kaleta….he ain’t changing and I’m OK w/ that. We have 3 lines of guys who try to “make a play” instead of take the body.

Some second period musings..
"Donald Trump is a nice guy, but his hairdo doesn’t belong on a jersey"

I wish I would’ve heard this. Hilarious, especially coming from NJ guys. For the record, I think that logo is as despicable as the red/black goat log. Why can’t the team just revert back to the old logo? No one likes this one. No one.

Harry Neale made a great comment about Myers maybe having some difficulty after the first ten game segment. And I think he’s dead on. The comment was along the lines that vets really start to kick it in gear after so many games, and teams with older guys start to re-reveal their personalities. I’m just paraphrasing, so don’t kill me here. But I think his point was that we should maybe not be surprised to see Myers take a step back before he takes two forward as the season progresses.

For those who hate NJ, NYI, CAR, and FLA, root for me. I have a 4 team parlay going on against those teams. Hello, my name is krytime, and I like to gamble predict.

Tough to be nitpicky with this teasm the way they started, but I still wish that 2nd line had a bigger, meaner winger on board.

Has the Roy line done much? Why does it seem to me they are often paired with the Montador/Paetsch duo?

How come no one ever mentions Danius Zubrus when talking about guys who left the Sabres? They gave up a lot for him as a rental.

I’m not crazy about Timmy’s game tonite. Dude just amazes me with his skill. I honestly think he’s top five in the league in handling the puck. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always win you games.

That’s a fortunate break for Buffalo.

This is a huge penalty

while on the power play nonetheless.

Power play has been bad all season but that may have been the worst two minutes of the entire season.

Afino, where’d you get that pic of the goalie?

I took one that was really similar (from a different angle) last December when I went to a game up in Portland

I don’t remember, I’ve had this forever.

by Afino on Oct 28, 2009 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

my mind is starting to wander

On XM today, Bill Clement said that there’s a decent chance that Marty Biron returns to Buff. this season to back up Ryan again

by destinsabresfan on Oct 28, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure, he didn’t elaborate

by destinsabresfan on Oct 28, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

It makes sense

probably won’t take much to get him at the trade deadline. The Islanders should be well out of things by then and they have a bunch of goalies.

Marty’s seems more comfortable as a backup

by destinsabresfan on Oct 28, 2009 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Not exactly the best 60-minute effort tonight overall, but huge contributions from the 4th line, and huge saves when it mattered by Miller were the difference.

Stupid flippin Rangers…
