SPG Game

I quickly put up a post before the first game that explained the SPG Game.  Unfortunately I did not do a very good job of explaining it.  I will try to do a better job of explaining the game and the objective in this post.  As always , if there are any questions send me an e-mail or ask in the comments.

What is the SPG Game?

"SPG" is an acronym for "Shot", "Penalty" and "Goal".  The object of the game is to predict which Buffalo Sabres player will have the first shot, penalty and goal for each period.

How Does it Work?

You receive one point for every correct prediction you make.  This gives you a potential for nine points in a regulation game, 12 points in an overtime game and 14 points in a shootout.

How Do I Sign Up?

The SPG Game is free to play with a special thanks to Gary Perez for building the platform that drives these statistics.  You can sign up by visiting this page and creating account.  After creating account you will have to visit the game page to make your selections.

Prizes?

There will be prizes available for the winner of each month as well as a grand prize winner at the conclusion of the regular season.  The winner of the grand prize at the end of the season will win a Buffalo Sabres jersey.  We will start out small by giving away a Buffalo Sabres poster to the winner of the October SPG Game.

This is ridiculous

Sabres being outshot 12-1 and outscored 2-0

this is worse than any period yesterday. Thank God the first period is over.

I agree

and I’m sure Lindy does, too. Poor Patty; he never seems to get much support when he fills in. Let’s hope the Sabres wake up and turn this around. There were some good efforts by Roy.

Deja Vu all over again...

Last year during our fast start, Lalime played against the Thrashers and we fell apart after that. We never beat Atlanta, it’s ridiculous.

Anyone else impressed by Clark? He’s been playing well.

Miller does not allow that goal.

This is terrible.

Roy needs to ride some pine pony, but he is not the only one. Horrible effort.

I can see playing crappy on the road

especially at the end of a trip…..but to play like this at home??! Reminds of a number of similar home efforts last season. Well, I hope we get this out of our system.

Glad I'm not a Leafs fan

They’re 20 minutes away from going 0-6-1 to start the season.

This is the worst that they have played all year

New Sabres/hockey fan question

How come our Sabres have so much trouble with a bottom-feeder team??

by Jsz on Oct 17, 2009 8:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Patrick Lalime is not good

Also, I think the players play for Ryan Miller.

by cwel87 on Oct 17, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I get that Miller is really good, but you saying the offense is better with Miller too?

by Jsz on Oct 17, 2009 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes. I’m calling for Enroth. I know what Lalime can do… lose.

Afinogenov dangling Myers to pretty much seal the game...

That’s a sight I could’ve lived my life without.

Max gets the last laugh

Appropriate for the stinko game the Sabres played.

I don't think they were THAT bad...

…but Atlanta certainly was better, particularly in the first two periods. Pev-dispenser really destroyed us on faceoffs and the special teams were pretty dreadful.

In the Sabres two losses, opposition goaltenders have posted a virtually unheard of .961 save percentage 34/35 and 40/42).

Enroth should get a shot… I think the D would tighten up over a young talent than a veteran back-up.

I’m sorry, but blaming Lalime is the WRONG move.

And blaming him is only going to lead to him playing worse. So what Lindy and the rest of the team needs to do is one by one, tell Lalime that tonight’s loss was NOT his fault. Kovalchuk picked the corner on goal 1. Lalime didn’t have a chance on goal two. Sure, he could have stopped 3 and 4, but neither were “soft”.

The Sabres played a terrible, terrible game. But please don’t start with Lalime. Start with #9 instead.

How about starting with the whole defense. The only defender who played like he had heart out there was Myers and even he got beat on a dipsy-doodle. The team all of a sudden this weekend forgot how to back check and overall played terrible. We have two more bottom feeder teams this week in Florida and Tampa Bay that we had issues with.
