Will the front office Lay another EGG?
Sitting here at work…..I have TSN loaded…..the refresh button is going to be worn out today, not going to get much done this afternoon..And I do not think the Sabres are going to make headlines… I would like for them to. I am sure everyone whould. But I was and still am hoping there is a glimmer of hope we can land a vetern leader. Rolston…Orpik…man I would love these guys on my team…Please Darcy/Quinn/TG…..spend some money on some LEADERS….
D.O I know you will be upset with me when I tell you I am still a sucker for Juicy RUMORS. I know….99% never come true but I cannot help my self…..
Showdown @ Noon Darcy….....Don’t be yellow and hide behind the “Market Value”, & “Youth in Organization” Bull S&!*..... Make A Splash…..

Lay an egg?
That is a popular misconception about what the Sabres front office did last season but keep in mind how many people have been added to the roster since Drury and Briere left, exactly zero and yet the Sabres are going to have trouble keeping Ryan Miller and Jason Pominville due to financial restrictions. I know that it seemed bad at the time but in retrospect the Sabres did the right thing letting Drury, Briere and Campbell go. The problem is that they got nothing for Briere and Drury but imagine if they traded them in the heat of a playoff run. They thought they had a legit shot at winning the Stanley Cup so they hung on for dear life and in return had the most tumultuous off-season in franchise history.

Can you imagine what they would have gotten in a trade?
They never had a chance at trading either of the two due to the playoff runs, but IF it ever happened in a parallel universe, they probably would’ve gotten 4 hot prospects and two high draft picks…
Just saying…

Absolutely
In retrospect it would have been nice to be in that situation. Unfortunately it is what it is and we can only hope to get back to the playoffs with what we have.

Gamblin Men
They certainly gambled in 2006-07. They basically figured, given the following years and the guys that would be up for extensions, that 2006-07 was their best chance at a cup. So, they spent to the cap, they kept their two high profile UFA’s beyond the deadline and even acquired Zubrus. If it worked out, no one would care if they let those guys walk, moreover, at least one them would probably have stayed. Of course, none of this matters anymore, but in a way, you have to admire the organization’s willingness to go for it when they thought they had a shot.
