Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Craig Rivet named Sabres Captain

It look slike the Sabres will have one captain and they will stick to him...that man is newly acquired defenseman Craig Rivet.  It's not an entirely surprising pick but I thought they would stick with someone who has been around the team for a longer period of time.  They have also named Jason Pominville, Jochen Hecht, Jaro Spacek and Teppo Numminen assistant captains.

There is no doubt that a player like Craig Rivet will command some respect from his teammates and he will be a calming presence in the locker room as well.  It's not clear if this is a permanent move but it certainly appears that way.  I'm sure that Lindy Ruff will hold a press conference shortly to officially name Rivet captain and announce the opening day roster.

{Update}:  This is a permanenet captain as per Lindy Ruff press conference from the Arena.  The management and coaching staff decided that there would be one captain for the entire season and then they allowed the players to vote.  Rivet was named captain after the players voted him to be captain.

it's about the players

if they voted him as captain they obviously respect him…I like the choices for the A too…this should give us some stability and maybe help close some of those tight games that we missed last season…I just hope they have worked on the shoot out since last year…man we were terrible (I almosted expected the OTL if it went to a shootout) and that shouldn’t happen with Miller in the net

Like the choice, but didn’t expect it. Definitely thought it was going to be Pominville all the way; glad to see he got one of the As.

Cannot wait for tomorrow night. Go Sabes.

Not going to lie

I was a bit surprised by the choice but I like it better than Pominville. I am a huge fan of Pommer but he still has some growing up to do. Rivet brings a veteran presence and he is the only player on this team that played in the playoffs last season.
