Sabres comeback for victory
I see a rather disturbing trend developing with the Buffalo Sabres recently. For the second consecutive game they fell behind by two goals before they came back and tied it. The only difference between tonight and last Saturday is the result. Ryan Miller stopped all but one shot in the shootout and Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek netted shootout goals for the victory.
The Sabres were outshot 16-6 in the first period and if not for great play from Ryan Miller they would have trailed by much more than one goal. Miller was outstanding tonight and he has been in all four of his starts this season. As good as Miller was throughout the game the save of the game was a glove save on David Krejci. Miller's biggest weakness last season was his performance in the shootout and this season he has stopped six out of seven shots and is 2-0 in the shootout.
The power play netted another goal for the Sabres tonight on a slap shot from Craig Rivet that was tipped in front by Clarke MacArthur. The power play goal came more than half way through the game and cut the Sabres deficit to 2-1. It seemed that the momentum changed immediately following that goal. It wasn't until the third period that the Sabres tied the game but they out-shot the Bruins 24-16 in the final two periods and overtime.
The Sabres scored on the power play but they also allowed the Bruins to score on the power play. It was the first power play goal allowed by the Sabres this season. They still killed off four out of five tries and they have now killed 28-of-29 on the season.
In other news tonight...it was the first time that Thomas Vanek didn't score a goal in a game this season. He netted the shootout winner but shootout goals don't count in the stats. It's only fitting that he still played an importnat role in the victory.
The Sabres are now 5-0-1 on the season and are preparing to play the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. The Wild are 4-0 and they probably won't let the Sabres back in the game if they spot them two goals.
{Edited to add Roll Call}: Many thanks go out to everyone who participated. In addition to me we had krytime, Fucilli5, Tony O and Head Rumbler Brian Galliford

it was nice to see
stafford come in on that goal, it really showed what he is capable of if he stays consitant, first period sucked but not a bad effort from there out…miller is the man and worth every bit of the 5 yrs…I hope he stays a sabre for life
biggest stat of the year
4th in goals for (22)
4th in goals against (10)
it’s early but this team is making a statement
Miller
The guy has been amazing so far…I was extremely critical of his play last season and it’s only fair that I state how well he is playing. The goal thing is great but slightly misleading…I’ll expand on that later today stay tuned.
